- South-facing courtyard garden
- Estuary glimpses from the main bedroom
- Residents’ parking permit available
- No onward chain
Gull Cottage sits halfway down Ropewalk Lane, one of the narrow cobbled streets that run from the church down to the harbour. It was built around 1820 for a rope maker and still has its original granite walls and deep window sills. The small front garden is hung with the current owners’ collection of old fishing floats, which they have offered to leave behind.
Ground floor
The sitting room has a wood burner set into the old inglenook and a window seat looking onto the lane. Behind it, the kitchen and dining room run the full width of the house, with a wooden island, painted units, a two-oven range cooker and a stable door to the garden. There is also a small utility room and a downstairs WC.
First and second floors
Two double bedrooms and the family bathroom are on the first floor. The main bedroom takes up the whole top floor, under exposed beams and with an open fireplace, and from its dormer window you can see a slice of the estuary over the rooftops.
Outside
The walled courtyard faces south and gets sun for most of the day. It is paved in local slate, with raised beds and space for a table and chairs. Residents’ parking permits for the Old Town zone are available from the council.
Good to know
- Mains gas, electricity, water and drainage
- Fibre broadband available on the lane
- The current owners have replaced the roof (2019) and rewired (2021)
